Some bullet points:

* The animation is fine
* Story is kind of mid but not bad
* Pacing is actually above average (notwithstanding the ending being a bit rushed)
* Music is rather generic
* The characters are alright, if sometimes wasted
* Some aspects of the world-building are under-developed, unfortunately

Overall, _not including episodes 55 through 79_ , I would give this series a 6.5 out of 10.

Moving on, please please PLEASE do not waste your time watching the "Digimon Xros Wars: The Boy Hunters Who Leapt Through Time" (A.K.A. Digimon Fusion Season 3 and begins with ep. 55). The long and short of it is that it's terrible fanservice.

* Plot isn't really explained until the END
* The new protagonists are unlikeable
* Taiki and Shoutmon are _literally shoved aside so Tagiru and Gumdramon can take their place_
* If you're going to do a series cross-over, you have to PROPERLY build it up and give it a PURPOSE. All it basically amounted to here was "hey remember these even though most of them we just made silhouettes of?".

If you truly need to know anything story-wise in the follow-up: Yes, Yuu's partner does make a return. Yes, Nene and Kiriha are in it too and no, they don't matter. Same goes for Akari and Zenjirō.

If I were to judge this in a vacuum, I would give "The Boy Hunters Who Leapt Through Time" a 3 out of 10. How unfortunate it is, then, that I cannot do so since it is an official part of the Digimon: Xros Wars continuity.

With that in mind, my final score for the entirety of this series is a 4.5 out of 10.
